The gender pay gap ranges in the United Kindgom (UK) with around 21 per cent (2016) above European average.

Fawcett Society

On November 10, 2016, the Equal Pay Day 2016has been initiated by the Fawcett Society. Theme of the campaign was the value of work following the hashtag #EqualValue. The aim of the campaign was to share good examples and stories of what people do to close the gap and why this matters to them.

The Fawcett Society held the Equal Pay Day on November 9, 2015, signalling the date women stop earning until the end of the year. This year's motto has been " Women - Like Men, Only Cheaper".

BPW UK

On March 11, 2016, BPW UK held the Equal Pay Day 2016 and calls upon citizens to write a letter to their MPs and MEPs asking what they are doing to promote equal pay and call for further action.

On March 11, 2015, the EPD took place in the UK. On this date, the delegation of BPW UK attended the Conference on the Status of Women #59 in New York. The delegation distributed information material, talked to many people in the streets about equal pay and posed with the EPD flag in various places in New York City.

In addition, BPW UK joined the International Women's Day parade on March 8, 2015, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, demonstrating for equal pay.

Traditionally, on the equal pay day, the trade unions coalition and the Fawcett Society are also actively pushing for the enforcement of the principle of equal pay.

Companies with more than 250 employees had to release both their median and mean gender pay gap figures by April 2018. That means approx. 9,000 employers across the public and private sectors will be publishing information on more than 15 million employees — the equivalent of nearly half of the country’s total workforce, according to U.K. government data.
